A research survey conducted to gym members shows that gym goers who participate in group workout sessions, were more motivated to complete more exercise routines and sets of reps during their group workout sessions, compared to working out alone.
Having a personal trainer in the gym helps with being motivated in doing workout routines. However, the survey study still finds that group workout classes are more effective in terms of motivating gym members to complete more exercise challenges.
This recent study made by the Global Wellness Institute covered both male and female gym members, ranging from young and senior gym members in various states and cities in America.
Top Reasons Why Group Training is Effective
1. Finding motivation through others – Seeing other group members do the workout routines makes the exercises seem easier and motivating to do. Even if your peers look very fit or overweight, you will find the challenge or motivation you need to complete routines better than working out alone.
2. Joining a community – Group training sessions can get you new friends and a community that supports each other in motivation for weight loss and fitness journeys. A sense of belonging to a fitness group lets members feel fully identified as fitness enthusiasts, thus making them more consistent to comeback for more group workout sessions.
3. Interactive exercises challenges coordination – Exercise routines such as passing around medicine balls and taking turns doing group exercise routines one at a time challenge not only cardiovascular fitness but also brain functions and memory.
4. More fun equals good cortisol levels – Cortisol levels help our body use glucose and fats, it also regulates our blood pressure and blood sugar levels. Having more fun from exercising, interacting with peers, laughing, and cheering from doing interactive group games and winning at team challenges produces good levels of cortisol compared to doing gym workouts alone or even with a gym instructor.
5. You will spend more time at the gym – Working out alone can make you feel awkward and intimidated towards other gym members present who are doing advance workout routines as well as to newcomers. A sense of leaving as fast as you can per session can become your mindset. But by joining group training, you’ll feel time flies faster and you’ll want to do more workouts. Gym members who do group training feel less awkward doing exercise routines and feel more accomplished but less tired after group workout sessions.
